Michael Karns was born and raised in Wisconsin. After graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design and Illustration, he headed west to work for Disney. He made a pit stop in Chico, California and fell in love with the untamed natural beauty of Northern California. Michael and his wife, Lisa, own an award winning screen print company located in Redding, California. He feels lucky that he gets to work side by side with two of his three children.
Michael has been featured in several art galleries across Northern California as well as Oregon. His artwork falls in the abstract/mixed media category. He uses several different application styles for his artwork including pouring, splattering, controlled throws, as well as intermixing sand and sawdust for added texture. Michael says “Think of modern day cave painting!” The sand adds a 3D element to separate the foreground and the background. Michael’s artistic style allows the viewer to develop their own understanding and comprehension of the art piece.
